TOR8/7 12:01 PM Max Scherzer (P-TOR) Scherzer vs. Kershaw: A rare showdown between 3,000-strikeout pitchers. Max Scherzer and Clayton Kershaw are set to square off in a rare matchup on Friday. Both are members of baseball's 3,000-strikeout club and likely Hall of Famers. The 41-year-old Scherzer and 37-year-old Kershaw have each won World Series titles and are three-time Cy Young Award winners. The game at Dodger Stadium features division leaders, with the Blue Jays leading the AL East and the Dodgers holding a slim lead in the NL West. Scherzer emphasizes the importance of focusing on the game rather than the matchup, saying, “You want a shot at the champs.”

HOU8/7 9:00 AM Hunter Brown (P-HOU) Astros Pitching Matchups Revealed for Massive Weekend Series Against Yankees. The Houston Astros are a legitimate contender to win another American League pennant this season. One of those foes just so happens to be the defending American League champion New York Yankees, who while flawed have as strong a chance as anyone else to get back to the Fall Classic. Before that though, Houston will have a chance this weekend to push the Yankees to the brink of outside the playoff picture with a massive three-game set in the Bronx starting on Friday night. For the first game, Astros breakout ace Hunter Brown is getting the ball against New York rookie Cam Schlittler, who will be making his fifth start of the season.

CWS8/7 8:44 AM Jonathan Cannon (P-CWS) Rodríguez and Naylor go deep early, Mariners hold off White Sox 8-6. SEATTLE (AP) — Julio Rodríguez hit a three-run homer during a five-run second inning for the Seattle Mariners as they beat the Chicago White Sox 8-6 on Wednesday night. Rodríguez — who on Sunday became the first player in major league history with 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in each of his first four seasons — went deep on a hanging sweeper from starter Jonathan Cannon (4-9). Cal Raleigh drove in two runs with a single immediately before Rodríguez's homer. Seattle led 7-1 after two innings, thanks in part to Josh Naylor's two-run homer in the first. George Kirby (7-5) was effective for six innings, yielding two runs and five hits while striking out nine. Chicago made it competitive in the

SF8/7 8:39 AM James Tibbs (OF-SF) Dodgers Get Exciting Glimpse Of Ex-Red Sox Prospect's Superstar Potential. It's been a crazy summer for James Tibbs III. The 13th overall pick in last year's MLB draft, Tibbs opened the season with the Eugene Emeralds — the High-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, he was dealt to the Boston Red Sox on June 15 as part of the stunning Rafael Devers trade. The Red Sox assigned him to Double-A Portland, where he struggled, hitting .207/.319/.267 with one homer, seven RBI and 39 strikeouts in 30 games.

FA8/7 8:30 AM Noah Syndergaard (P-FA) Former Dodgers Flameout Released by White Sox Amid Comeback Attempt. The trajectory of Noah Syndergaard's career can be measured in dollars and cents. After the Angels signed the former All-Star to a one-year, $21 million in November 2021, foolishly surrendering a second-round draft pick in the process, he was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies with a 5-8 record and 3.83 ERA after 15 starts. In December 2022, the Dodgers were willing to bet $13 million that Syndergaard might improve in his second full season following Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. Syndergaard went 1-4 with a 7.16 ERA in 12 starts with the Dodgers.
